ALBUM REVIEW: Clay Aiken-On My Way Here

By: Scott Rader

5/8/2008

Now I'm not a big man. Or an angry one. So why is it that every time I hear Clay Aiken, or see him, I just want to kick the crap out of him?

Let's face it. Clay Aiken has done nothing to me personally. His only real crime is being able to sing like a chorus of a dozen angels. But I want to hit him. I want to hit him so bad.
And hearing him belt out with that honeydewed voice on tracks "Something About Us," "On My Way Here" and "Weight of the World" made me all the more angry.

He's so tender. So soulful. This is the kind of stuff I like about music. Not just being a soulless popster trying to make a buck. There is something real behind these songs. Real power. But I want to kick him in the groin every time I hear it. That's just irrational.
If you heard "Where I Draw the Line," which is really a soulless and terrible song, you could understand. "Around my heart is where I draw the line." Lines like that will get any one's blood a boiling.

But the other tracks aren't filled with that kind of sappiness. Well, not as completely. Maybe Clay Aiken doesn't deserve my wrath. He's pretty talented. And On My Way Here is a pretty solid album.

If you promise to make it number one, I'll try my hardest not to punch his nose.
