CD REVIEW: Cartel

It sounds like something uber glory whore David Blaine would do. Lock himself in a bubble for 20 days. Instead, it was emo band Cartel as part of Dr. Pepper and MTV’s Band in a Bubble program.
Both are equal parts side show attraction, but, at least Cartel came away from their stunt with something to show for themselves. Maybe it’s only a mediocre pop punk album, but with some pretty surprising gems.
Back-to-back tracks, “Wasted,” “The Fortunate” and “Georgia combine for surprisingly tight and moody trifecta.
Let’s face it; Blaine has had zero tight and moody trifectas.
And Cartel is an infinitely better stunt than anything Blaine has pulled.
