MIXTAPE: September Week 3

1. Vampire Weekend-"Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa"
They might sound scary, but Vampire Weekend is actually sweet and tender. They even get compared to Paul McCartney, and he's the sweetest Beatle.

2. Dr. Dog-"Heart it Races"
Dr. Dog is a horrible name for a band. Even worse than Snow Patrol. However, this band, heavily rooted in 60's pop, may win your heart with this Architecture in Helsinki cover.

3. Mark Ronson-"Valerie (ft. Amy Winehouse)"
Producer Mark Ronson and singer Amy Winehouse did a wonderful thing with this Zuton’s rocker. They drenched it in soulful horns and made it sound like a Motown go-go.

4. Canasta-“Impostors”
It’s harrowing and beautiful. This is maybe the best pop band you’ve never heard of.

5. Black Kids-“I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance”
Uh, doesn’t the song title say it all? Teach your own dang boyfriend.

6. Simian-“La Breeze”
This is the type of song that once people hear it, they love it. Hear it! Love it!

7. Maps-"So Low, So High"
Droning is usually a bad adjective to apply to music. But Maps, a.k.a. James Chapman, makes it work, droningly, a.k.a. awesomely!
